Grampy's Grilled Corn on the Cob

Working with Grammy's recipes reminded me of one of my favorites. I don't think anyone ever wrote it down. "Grampy" for my generation is Carl Fritz Klotz. For the Fourth of July, we had cook outs behind the store. Then we went up to sit on the porch roof and watch the fireworks over Watchung Mountain. As with all corn on the cob, this method works best with freshly picked New Jersey corn.

Start the coals on the grill.

Clean the husk and hair from as many ears of corn as you want. (This is my least favorite part; it always makes me itch for hours afterwards.)

Slather each ear with mayonaise and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Wrap the ears individually in foil.

Place the wrapped ears in the coals while you grill your hamburgers or whatever.

My recollection is that the corn and the hamburgers took about the same time to grill.
