Brownies
This is another one from the chain letter. The sender wrote: "This recipe is very quickly put together. Just a few minutes. The brownies are of the chewy type—very good. Hope you like it!" See below for Blonde Brownies.
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 2 squares chocolate, melted
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (scant)
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Bake in shallow pan in 350°F oven for 20 minutes.

Whoever gave this to Grace got it from The Black and White Cookbook by the Wives of Holstein Farmers, published by the National Holstein-Friesian Association, 1978. It wasn't among the things I transcribed in 2013. Carol and I found it when we went through the box in 2024.
- 1 cup sifted flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup butter
- 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 package chocolate chips
Sift together flour, baking powder, soda and salt.
Melt butter, remove from heat, mix in sugar. Add egg and vanilla. Mix into the flour mixture.
Spread in a greased 9 x 9 inch pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the top.
Bake at 350°F 20–25 minutes.
