I always thought of this as my father's recipe, but according to the card, my mother's cousin Averil Jean wrote it out when she was visting in May 1969. This recipe as part of family legend, but I can't say I recommend the result.
Mix sugar and coffee.
Add boiling water.
Cool; add brandy, pour into glass (½ gal.) wine bottle.
Drop in vanilla bean.
Let stand 30 days under the sink.
